Disabling Pop-up Blockers
In order to access Webcourses@UCF all students will need to disable any pop-up blocker software or at least allow the Webcourses as "Trusted Sites." Below is a list of common pop-up blockers and ways to do so.
Toolbars
Toolbars are installed directly into your browser. Their settings can usually be accessed by opening your browser and finding the appropriate button on the toolbar. We recommend turning off or uninstalling toolbars completely, but if you feel it necessary to keep them you can follow the steps below to disable pop-up blockers.
- Google Toolbar
- Disabling/Allow Access: Clicking on the "Blocking Popups" button will disable the pop-up blocker
- Yahoo! toolbar
- Disabling: Click on the pop-up blocker icon and click on "Enable Pop-Up Blocker" so that there is no longer a check mark beside it
- Allowing Access: Click on the pop-up blocker icon and choose "Always Allow Pop-Ups From..."
- Choose the appropriate site from the list of Recently Blocked Pop-Ups (this will be "webct.ucf.edu" or "webcourses.ucf.edu") and click "Allow"
- Earthlink Pop-Up Blocker
- Clicking on the "Pop-Up Blocker" icon will turn off the pop-up blocker.
- PopUpCop
- Disable: Click on the PopUpCop icon and click "Disable PopUpCup"
Browsers
Most browsers now come with pop-up blocking capabilities. Please follow the directions corresponding to which browser you are using:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Disable: In the browser menu bar click on "Tools" then "Pop-up Blocker"
- Click "Turn Off Pop-up Blocker"
- Allowing Access: In the browser menu bar click "Tools" then "Pop-Up Blocker" then "Pop-Up Blocker Settings..."
- Type in the appropriate web address (webcourses.ucf.edu and/or webct.ucf.edu) and click "Add"
- Mozilla Firefox
- Disable: In the browser menu bar click on "Tools" then "Options"
- Click the "Content" tab (represented by a globe) and then uncheck "Block Popup Windows"
- Allowing Access: Follow the steps above, but instead of unchecking "Block Popup Windows" instead click on the "Allowed Sites" button and add the appropriate sites (webcourses.ucf.edu and/or webct.ucf.edu).
3rd Party Software
If you are having pop-up problems but are not sure which software you are using (and you are sure it is not due to a ToolBar installed on your browser), you can look in your Windows Taskbar which is located in the lower right hand corner of your screen (where the date and time are) and hover your mouse over the icons in order to identify what programs are currently running.
If you cannot find the software blocking pop-ups, you can try a few different key combinations while clicking a link:
- CTRL
- CTRL + ALT
- CTRL + SHIFT
This will temporarily disable the pop-up blocker for that link exclusively. Otherwise, follow the steps below for the corresponding software you have installed on your computer.
- McAfee Internet Security Suite
- Look in the "Privacy Services" for McAfee to turn off the pop-up blocker
- Norton Internet Security
- Right click on the Symantec icon in the bottom left corner and choose "Disable"
- Zone Alarm
- Set the Firewall "Trusted Zone Security" to "Medium"
- Add the Webcourses addresses (webcourses.ucf.edu and/or webct.ucf.edu) as the "Host Name"
